"By touching a body we touch every event it has experienced. For a few brief moments we hold all of a client's stories in our hands. We witness someone's experience of their own flesh, through some of the most powerful means possible: the contact of our hands, the acceptance of the body without judgement, and the occasional listening ear. With these gestures, we reach across the isolation of the human experience and hold another person's legend. In massage therapy, we show up and ask, in so many ways, what is it like to be another human being. In doing so, we build a bridge that may heal us both."
-Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.
The benefits of massage therapy and bodywork are as unique and limitless as the receiver. Massage restores vitality and tone to our tissue and can also help to move stagnate chi. Research indicates that fascia is piezoelectric tissue. This means that when a massage therapist uses gentle, sustained pressure, a flow of bioenergy is generated to promote rehydration, heat, optimal healing and integrity. Restoring range of motion and alleviating pain are just a few of the many effects massage therapy has on the mind/body/spirit connection.
“Polyvagal theory basically says that how safe we feel ( and the word “feel” is really important), is crucial to our health and happiness. It’s really that simple. And once you kind of really lock into that, the implications are enormous.”
-Dr. Stephen Porges
Massage therapy is a parasympathetic inducing activity. It can lower blood pressure, encourages digestion, supports the immune system, healthy adrenal function and promotes better sleep. All of these things support an optimal you and an optimal space to thrive.
